Spring Yellow: How to wear this sunshine hue this season

This season’s key colour is yellow. If you are a golden shade of brown you might steer clear of yellow as it might make you feel washed out rather than bright. The trick to spring yellow is to go deep and bold – no acid yellow or pastels. You’ll find that it does work!

If you’re still not sure, just carry a warm yellow handbag. It’s the perfect accessory to take you from spring into summer and will brighten any gloomy, rainy day.

If you have golden toned skin, chances are you keep away from yellow make-up too. I consider myself a medium golden brown although judging by my foundation shade at beauty counters for darker skin, I am at the fairer end of the scale. For me personally, the one yellow lipstick I have tried made me look like I was dying a slow death and what I thought was a deep yellow eyeshadow just looked like my own skin. I was very disappointed to say the least!

I could have made the yellow eyeshadow pop by using a creamy white base. Or I could layer a yellow gel eyeliner over a grey or black base. Double winged eyeliner looks gorgeous but it could be reversed with a thick black wing underneath a thin yellow wing. There’s no getting away from the fact that wearing yellow takes a little more effort but it’s worth it.

Now, if you’re a deeper shade of brown, yellow is your colour. You might even have red undertones so the yellow will really stand out whether it is clothing or make-up.

If you have a deeper skin tone, find yourself a rich, bold yellow lipstick and wear with matte black winged eyeliner. Keep the rest of the face natural for a truly striking look. If you’re more an eyes person, have fun with yellow eyeshadow. Keep it on the lids only for a flash of yellow when you blink, blend it into a brown smokey eye for a bit of sensible to calm down the fun or take it up high above the eyesocket and just below the brown bone in a sharp square for a nod to the eighties.

I’d love to see what you create so post your links below or upload a photo to Instagram tagging @glowwbox and #Glowwer.

Yellow is fun and yellow is happy so it’s time to play!
